How can I get started?
How long has Wealth Planning & Management been in business? WP&M was started in 1997 by former brokerage firm account executives who wanted a new business model: discretionary, fee-only money management. (Back to Top)
Do I have to pay for the first interview? How much does a planner typically charge? Like other professionals, the rates financial planners charge depend on their experience, geographic location, level of services and your needs. Interview more than one planner to get an idea of the going rate for financial planning services. Please see our fees under the Fee Schedule page on our site.
Are your fees deductible? IRS Code Section 212 states that investment advisory and financial planning fees incurred may be deductible. We encourage our clients to ask their accountant or CPA about the deductibility of fees. (Back to Top)
Can you take my money? No. TD Ameritrade Institutional custodies your portfolio. As custodians they have implemented safeguards to protect you and your financial assets. For example:
Any money leaving your account will only be sent by the custodian directly to your address of record and in your name. Your address cannot be changed without your written consent, and the Institutional Service Team verifies your signature matches the one they have on file for such a request; Any money transferred out of your account (with the exception of the firm’s investment management fees) may only be transferred into an account with the exact same registration. For example, an account in the name of John and Jane Doe may only transfer to another account in the exact name of John and Jane Doe.
Custodians retain on file a copy of the Firm’s most current Form ADV. Attempts to debit your account for investment management fees substantially in excess of the norm are immediately flagged as an excessive percentage of your portfolio and validated with an appropriate reason only (in the case of client fees for several accounts being taken from one account for example). What is your financial planning process?
Financial planning is a multi-step process that provides you with two important things: (1) An in-depth review of your current financial situation, and (2) a roadmap that shows you how to achieve your goals and objectives for the future. At Wealth Planning & Management, LLC , the financial planning process consists of six distinct steps. It is important to remember that financial planning is a process . . . not an event. (Back to Top)
How do you create this Roadmap?
First, we focus on your goals, objectives, priorities and values. For instance: the reduction of current and future income taxes may be an immediate goal, funding a quality education for your children and/or grandchildren may be an intermediate goal, and enjoying a secure financial future in your retirement years is likely to be one of your most important long-term goals. Another great goal in life for some people is creating wealth and/or leaving a legacy for your chosen beneficiaries or charities. You may already be on the road to meeting these objectives and simply need a new strategy, professional insight, or to fine-tune your plan. You may just be starting out, or you may be somewhere in between. Whatever your unique situation may be, everyone needs a periodic assessment of where they are on the road to meeting their financial goals.
That’s why we do an in-depth review of your current financial situation. Next, you need to know how you can set about achieving (or continue working toward) your financial goals. By focusing on cash flow, investments, taxes, pensions and retirement plans, estate planning, insurance issues, savings opportunities and other general financial matters, we design a customized financial plan for you. Finally, to achieve the intended results, you must implement and monitor your plan. We can assist you with this as well. (Back to Top)
What is "Fee-Only" financial planning and why should that be important to me?
Because we are Fee-Only financial planners, all conflicts of interest regarding compensation are removed. We do not accept sales commissions; we work solely for our clients. Because we do not sell financial products such as investments and insurance, there are no third-party relationships or outside influences to color our thinking and financial recommendations.
In addition, our firm is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA); as such, we must comply with a host of regulations designed to protect the consumer. One important question you should always ask when considering a financial planner’s services: ''May I please have a copy of your ADV Part II?'' This document contains important information about the planner’s qualifications, fiduciary duties, history of any past violations, etc. We would be happy to send you a copy of our ADV Part II. Please contact us to request your copy. (Back to Top)

Why do you have a minimum quarterly fee?
When you work with Wealth Planning & Management LLC, you will work directly with Paul Coan, CFP®, ChFC, CEA and/or John Guy CFP. They both possess substantial experience, knowledge, and credentials to work for each and every client equally. Rather than providing smaller clients the disservice of a lower level and quality of service as most other financial advisors do - They provide every client the same attention to detail and excellent planning services. An average new client relationship takes approximately 15 to 20 hours of meetings, consultations, reviews, and behind the scenes planning and preparation - and that's just the first few months of a relationship!
The $500 quarterly client minimum fee ensures we can continue to provide each and every client of Wealth Planning & Management LLC, the same high standard of excellence in financial advice, personal service, attention to detail and overall quality relationship. (Back to Top)
